"Attic Treasures" Sale
a Huge Success

Livingston Lodge was packed to overflowing with everything from baubles to boats, from crystal to crutches, from souvenirs to silver. The Historical Society held its fourth “Attic Treasures Sale” in June, 2004, to benefit the educational outreach program and the Society's endowment fund.

Some of the artwork at Attic TreasuresOver 200 persons browsed through the art work on the walls and the treasures displayed on tables and outside on the lawn. A children’s playhouse and wrought iron patio furniture went very fast, and by the end of the morning there was not much left of the treasures and trinkets gathered for the sale.

Called a “bargain hunter’s paradise” by a local writer, the sale attracted buyers from the surrounding area, and they lined up long before the doors were opened. All of the items were donated by Village residents who were delighted to share their unused and often hidden “things” with someone else. In what was definitely a win-win situation, both donors and purchasers were pleased. Almost all the members of families who came to “see and shop” went away with arms and vans loaded.

Showing off the Treasures

Some of the outstanding items included appliances, a greenhouse, a Victorian sink, original art work, signed and numbered prints, sterling silver candelabra, a lawn tractor, a triple-mirrored vanity, ski boots, jewelry, and collectible antique toys. Of course, there were plenty of practical household items such as cook pots, garden tools, linens, workshop equipment, and enough books to stock a good-sized library.

A beautiful tea setThe Board of Trustees has decided to have an “Attic Treasures V” sale next June 18, 2005 at Livingston Lodge. In order to assist Village residents who are moving or downsizing, volunteers will pick up any donations now and will store them until the 2005 sale. This should guarantee that the fifth sale will be bigger and better than ever! Anyone wishing to contribute items may phone the office at 513/891-1873 or contact the staff at ihhist@one.net. The Historical Society is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, so all gifts are tax deductible.
