The Elliott House

The Elliott House as it appears today

The Elliott House (1800) is the oldest remaining house built in Indian Hill.. In fact, it is one of the oldest houses in the Miami Purchase, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. This "large stone house" was the home of the Elliott family until 1898, when it was sold to the Sterrett family.

Learn how to participate in IHHS
Share your family photos with the Historical Society. Of special interest are pictures of houses now replaced or modified (before and after.) Other suggestions: gatherings in one of the Village parks, participation in parades, or “art” shots taken in the Green Areas.

We will scan the photos and return the originals to you.

U.S. Grant Portrait
Displayed at Library

U.S. Grant Portrait

A historic portrait of President Ulysses S. Grant that was donated to the Indian Hill Historical Society by Andrew C. Hauck, Jr. has a new home. It is now hanging at the Brown County Library in Georgetown. The Society has loaned the painting to the library since it was felt appropriate that it reside in the childhood home of President Grant.

The city of Georgetown held a ceremony on November 3 at the library, attended by both local citizens and representatives of the Historical Society. Georgetown residents have expressed their gratitude for the sharing of this large, almost-life size oil portrait with their community. The painting will remain there for the foreseeable future, but may someday return to Indian Hill.
