Building Rental Program The Little Red Schoolhouse and Buckingham Lodge (The Bonnell House) are available for rental by members. These buildings are ideal for group meetings or parties. The Little Red Schoolhouse features tall, arched windows, louvered shutters, elaborate brick facing beneath the roofline, and a double door with a fan window overhead. Inside, a vestibule leads to an open "classroom" area, with high ceilings, hardwood floors, and blackboards along the walls. The ten multi-paned windows provide a bright, airy space during the day, and the programmed lighting system offers subtle illumination for evening entertainment.
Groups may use the heated and air-conditioned Little Red Schoolhouse, which offers a caterer-approved kitchen, restrooms, tables and chairs, a sound system, and a piano. In addition to the interior space, the grounds of The Little Red Schoolhouse provide a pastoral view and acres of lawn, perfect for accommodating tents. A large parking lot has dual access to Camargo and Given Roads, and an ADA approved ramp provides handicap entrance to the building. Included in the basic rental fee for use of the Schoolhouse:
Buckingham Lodge is an 1860 eight-room Italianate farmhouse. The sitting room and dining room on the first floor and the two front bedrooms upstairs are furnished in mid-19th century style. The atmosphere is one of a country family home typical of Ohio at the time of the Civil War--but there are 1 1/2 baths and the kitchen is equipped with modern appliances. (The Society's offices and Resource Center occupy the rear four rooms, but the
remainder of the building is available for rental by members.) Buckingham Lodge is suitable for small gatherings--either meetings or parties, with an occupancy limit of 30 persons. As with the Schoolhouse (since both buildings are leased from the Village of Indian Hill for Society member functions,) the Lodge is available for rental by members only. A rental contract will be sent upon request. Signatures by the IHHS Administrator and the renter, along with the pre-payment of the rental fee, will confirm the reservation of the date. Renters will be requested to be or become members of the Indian Hill Historical Society. They will also be required to make a security deposit and show evidence of liability insurance coverage.
