A "Village-Specific" Educational Library
The Hauck Library
Available to all residents.

Located at Buckingham Lodge (8650 Camargo Road), the Indian Hill Historical Society's Resource Center/Library has in its files and on its shelves an array of information about the Village. This ongoing and important part of the Society's over-all program is the culmination of the 25 years of endeavor by many trustees, members, and staff persons.

Information regarding Indian Hill can be obtained at the Resource Center in the following areas:

village.gif (2164 bytes)Village Subject Files Most of the topics pertaining to the past and present history of Indian Hill are represented in these files. Alphabetically filed by subject, the areas covered range from Village services, organizations and clubs, to non-residential sites in the area (parks, trails, public buildings, cemeteries, schools, churches, etc.), and background information on the general area, natural history information, and maps.

books.gif (1671 bytes)Library Volumes On its shelves the Society has available for in-house use books pertaining to Indian Hill, Hamilton County, and Ohio history and geography. Included in these volumes are also some 19th century one-of-a-kind local recorder statistics, old club, church and school ledgers, etc. IHHS has an ongoing acquisition program to maintain up-to-date resource books regarding the history of this area.

house.gif (3157 bytes)House Files Information is available regarding many Indian Hill homes (with owners' permission), the houses' histories, previous owners, architecture, and some photographs of their exterior elements. These files are constantly expanding as more residents provide graphic and verbal additions.

Village Bulletins Bound copies of the Indian Hill Bulletin are available on our shelves, dating from the first publication in 1941 through the current date. An alphabetical index by subject and person enables researchers to locate and read specific articles published over the last 60+ years.

Indian Hill Living Every issue since its beginning in 1983 is contained in the bound volumes of this local publication regarding the people and places of the Village. An alphabetical index (of the topics and individuals in Living's articles) aids in finding information printed in this periodical.

Indian Hill Journal  The Library also maintains reduced size copies of all the issues of the Indian Hill Journal weekly newspaper, which began being published in 2001.  Articles related to the Village and its residents are also referenced in the Past Perfect database maintained by the Librarian.  This now serves as an additional source of up-to-date media information regarding Indian Hill and its residents.

phone.gif (1286 bytes)Indian Hill Phone Books A copy of every Village residents' phone book since its inception in 1954 is available for examination. These provide a valuable resource in securing an identification of previous home owners and a quick aid in determining the date of first occupancy of houses built since 1954. Another interesting aspect of the use of these books is identifying previous homes that now no longer exist if they were razed to combine building sites or to subdivide into multiple lots.

famtree.gif (3828 bytes)Family/Genealogy Files A number of Indian Hill residents have provided family trees or genealogical information regarding their ancestors. There are also some charts showing the inter-relationship of early families in the Village.

Maps The Society has copies of a number of old Village maps, some of which show former property owners, and also current maps of specific interest regarding Green Areas, etc.

videog.gif (2632 bytes)Photographs/Slides It is an ongoing project to record Village and Society events, new property changes, and multiple photos accumulated in preparing Society publications and producing the Village video, etc. This has resulted in a large resource of binders filled with both historic and current photographic images that capture the visual essence of Indian Hill. They may be viewed via slide projector or edited on the library light table.

Oral Histories These are available on cassette tapes (the actual interviews) and also in hard copy transcriptions or extractions of the text. They are primarily personal recollections by some of the Village's residents who were involved in its growth, its administration, or its various organizations. Exploration of these informative glimpses of history and individual experiences is facilitated by use of the library's tape players with headphones.

videog.gif (2632 bytes)Electronic Media A collection of videos, tapes, CD's and images of village events (parades, etc.) and Historical Society programs is available for viewing on the library's VCR/TV/DVD and computers. Also included are copies of the IHHS 1997 video, "An Indian Hill Scrapbook," a 15-minute sketch of the settling of the area, its development, its organizations and services, its green areas, and its homes. See School Days for a list.

Resident Files Current periodical articles regarding present and past Village residents are added regularly to these files. Filed alphabetically by surname, such articles not only retain information regarding the people of today, but also will serve in the future to give glimpses of the lives of present-day residents for future generations. Since these have been accumulated over many of the Society's 25+ years, the files already hold facts and photos of a number of Indian Hill's prominent citizens, some of whom are now deceased.

Scrap Books These include folios from the 1950's through the 1970's, compiled by early members of the Historical Society as a chronological record of Village happenings and concerns at that time.
